Avoiding common mistakes when importing profiles

Most importing problems come from a handful of avoidable mistakes: vague enquiries, unchecked quotations, skipped samples and unclear shipping terms. Here is how to sidestep each one.

Mistake 1 — A vague enquiry

"I need window profiles" is not enough to quote accurately. Always include model codes or dimensions, quantities, finish and destination port. Clear enquiries get faster, accurate quotations.

Mistake 2 — Not reading the quotation line by line

The quotation is the contract. Check model codes, dimensions, wall thickness, finish, quantity, Incoterm and lead time before approving — every confirmed line is what you will receive.

Mistake 3 — Skipping the sample

On a first order, always approve a sample section or drawing. It is the cheapest insurance against receiving profiles that do not fit your assembly.

Mistake 4 — Unclear shipping terms

Confirm the Incoterm (FOB, CFR, CIF and others on request) and loading port (Shenzhen or Guangzhou) in writing. "Shipping included" means different things to different people — the quotation removes the ambiguity.

Mistake 5 — Forgetting import formalities

Talk to your clearing agent before the goods sail, not after they arrive. Confirm duties, documents and any product requirements for your country in advance.

Mistake 6 — No inspection plan

Decide before production whether you will inspect, appoint a third party, or accept standard QC — and confirm it in the quotation.

What is the single most important document?

The written quotation — it confirms every detail of what you will receive. Read it line by line before approving.

Should I inspect before shipment?

It is your choice, confirmed in the quotation. Many first-time buyers inspect or appoint a third-party inspector for peace of mind.
